Volleyball Topped by Lewis in GLVC Opener

ROMEOVILLE, Ill.  - - The 14th-ranked Truman volleyball team won its opening set of GLVC play, but couldn't maintain the momentum and fell 3-1 (20-25, -18, 26-24, -21) in its league-opening match at Lewis (Ill.) University on Saturday night.

The Bulldogs (5-4, 0-1 GLVC) were plagued by errors throughout the night, committing 32 in four sets to hit just .115 against a Lewis (5-4, 1-0 GLVC) squad that countered with a .231 mark and 13 total blocks.

Sophomore Abby Heise led all Bulldogs with 14 kills and hit .333 to go with five digs, while fellow sophomores Ali Patterson (13 kills, .480 hitting) and Emilee Walters (10 kills, four blocks) each reached double-figures in points.

Junior Meghan Zimmerman set the Bulldogs to 44 assists, with junior libero Abby Moser pacing the back line with a team-high 15 digs.

Lewis, meanwhile, was led by Kim Vertin's 16 kills and 17 digs, while Alexis Davito chipped in 15 kills for the host Flyers.

The Bulldogs turn around for a Sunday afternoon match at UW-Parkside at 1:00 pm. The Rangers opened GLVC play with a 3-1 home win against Quincy on Saturday evening and are 7-3 overall on the season.
