Bulldogs Drop Rangers 2-1 in OT

KIRKSVILLE - - Alexis Heffernan's goal in the 95^th minute broke a 1-1 tie in overtime, as the Truman women's soccer team earned three key league points with a 2-1 win against No. 18 UW-Parkside on Sunday afternoon.

The Bulldogs (4-1-2, 3-0-1 GLVC) ran their unbeaten streak to six with Sunday's win, which pushed Truman into second place in the GLVC through the first two weekends of league play. UW-Parkside, meanwhile, suffered its second straight loss, falling to 3-2-1 overall, 1-2-1 in GLVC play.

Truman jumped on the board first in the game's 37^th minute, when sophomore Jessica Hanson punched in her first collegiate goal off a feed by junior Melanie Hunt. Hanson converted out of a scramble in the front of the box off a corner kick to give the purple and white a 1-0 lead.

The Rangers, however, came back in the 61^st minute, when Karley Mecko headed in a corner kick to knot the match at 1-1.

However, in overtime, Heffernan played a Trisha Shoemaker cross past Parkside keeper Mallory Geurts for her third goal of the season and second game-winning tally of the campaign.

Truman out-shot UWP 20-14 overall, including 8-5 on goal. Bulldog keeper Emily Bozdeck, meanwhile, made four saves in her 94-plus minutes of work between the pipes.

The Bulldogs are off until a two-match road trip next Friday and Sunday at Indianapolis and Saint Joseph's (Ind.). Truman's match with UIndy (2-3-1, 1-2-1 GLVC) begins at 4:00 pm (Central) on Friday, Sept. 27.
