Recap: Trio Lead #18 Volleyball Offense Past Bearcats

KIRKSVILLE  - - Ali Patterson, Allie Brak and Abby Heise combined for 37 of Truman's 53 kills, as the 18th-ranked Bulldogs awoke from an early slumber to defeat McKendree (Ill.) 3-1 on Sunday afternoon in Pershing Arena.

The Bulldogs (8-5, 3-1 GLVC) won their third straight conference match, rebounding from a first set 25-20 loss by shutting down McKendree 25-13, 25-16, and 25-19 in the final three frames. After the Bearcats (2-10, 1-3 GLVC) hit .200 in the opening set, the Bulldog defense ratcheted it up, holding MCK to just an .073 mark the rest of the way for a match mark of .101.

Meanwhile, on the offensive side of the net, Truman hit an even .200 for the match, getting a 13-kill, .462 outing by Patterson. The sophomore middle added four block assists and a pair of aces to lead all players with 17 points.
Heise, a sophomore right-side, hit .286 with a dozen kills and finished just shy of a triple-double with eight digs and seven block assists. Brak, meanwhile, posted a double-double with 12 kills and 17 digs while hitting .211.

Junior Meghan Zimmerman added a double-double of her own with 46 assists and 14 digs. In addition, the setter dealt a match-high four aces, as Truman served seven aces for the match to just five errors.

Truman sided-out at a 62% clip and out-dug the Bearcats 78-66 on the afternoon.

Hannah Wessel led MCK with 13 kills, while libero Maddie Kelly led all players with 25 digs.

The Bulldogs step out of GLVC play for a match against former MIAA foe Missouri Western on Wednesday night at 7:00 pm in St. Joseph, Mo.
