Volleyball Nabs Classic Championship

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - - The 16^th-ranked Truman State University volleyball squad ran to a Classic Championship on Saturday afternoon, winning a pair of matches to cap its opening weekend with a 3-1 record.

The Bulldogs defeated Eckerd (Fla.) 3-0 (-16, 28-26, -23) in the opener before holding off an upstart Adelphi (N.Y.) squad 3-2 (-16, 27-29, -17, 19-25, 15-7) in the finale.

Truman hit just .167 against Eckerd, but held the Tritons to just an .081 mark in picking up the morning sweep. Junior Allie Brak put away 14 kills and hit. 286, while sophomore Abby Heise set down nine kills and added four blocks. Junior Meghan Zimmerman recorded a double-double with 35 assists and 11 digs, while junior Abby Moser paced the back row with 16 digs out the libero position.

In the nightcap, Brak (17 kills), sophomore Emilee Walters (14 kills), and sophomore Ali Patterson (10 kills) paced the Truman attack, as the Bulldogs hit. 248 to get past Adelphi. Sophomore Sidney King took libero duties and led the team with 14 digs, while Brak logged a double-double by tacking on 10 digs of her own.

The Bulldogs return to action next weekend at the Colorado Premier Challenge, where they will face Florida Southern and No. 1 Concordia-St. Paul on Friday (Sept. 13) evening.
