Bulldogs Fall In NWCA National Duals

DES MOINES – The Bulldog Wrestling team dropped a trio of matches at the National Wrestling Coaches Association Division II National Duals on Saturday. Senior Ryan Maus was the lone Bulldog to win all three of his matches on the day.
 
Truman returns to conference action on Friday when they travel to the University of Central Missouri.
 
#7 Kutztown (Pa.) 24, Truman 18
It came down to the final match but in the end, the top-ranked wrestler at 284 and all-American from last year, Ziad Haddad pinned Ben Dudley in the first period to give Kutztown the 24-18 victory over the Bulldogs.
 
Jabez Zinabu got things started with a 6-3 win for Truman but Brandon Davis matched the score with a 6-5 victory over Rafael Lopez at 133.
 
Mitch Voelker pinned Andrew Still at 141 but Truman's All-American' Ryan Maus answered with his own pin to keep the dual tied at nine points apiece.
 
Devon Fenstermaker put Truman back on top with a second period pin at 165 but the Golden Bears leap frogged over Truman with a 6-1 decision at 174 and 2-0 win at 184.
 
Helmut Rentschler set up the winner-takes-all bout with a 5-2 decision over Brandan Clark at 197.
 
The loss sent Truman into the consolation bracket of the National Duals.

Colorado-Pueblo 20, Truman 16
 
Truman trailed 7-0 before Andrew Still and Ryan Maus scored nine team points for the Bulldogs to take the lead. Still got an injury default win for six points and Maus was a 7-1 winner over Jimmy Chase.
 
Fenstermaker put Truman back in front with a 9-1 major win at 165 and Ryan Ward lifted Truman on top after they fell behind with a 4-2 decision at 184.
 
CSU-Pueblo won the final two matches to take the dual. Riley Argyle won 5-1 over Rentschler and All-American and nationally-ranked Niko Bogojevic defeated Dudley 6-0 at 285.

In the final match of the National Duals, Truman was downed by the Wisconsin-Parkside Rangers 35-7.
 
Ryan Maus and Colton Schmitz picked up the lone wins for the Bulldogs with Maus winning 14-2 and Schmitz taking the 157 match 6-4.
