ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - - Junior guard Reed Mells scored a team-high 14 points and handed out three assists, while fellow junior guard Seth Jackon added eight points and 10 rebounds, but the Truman men's basketball team came up on the short side of an 82-65 decision at No. 22 Lewis (Ill.) on Thursday night.

The Bulldogs (8-2, 1-1 GLVC), who were playing their first game since December 22, held with the Flyers (9-0, 1-0 GLVC) and kept it a one-possession game with 14:17 to play before Lewis rattled off a 13-4 run to take a 62-50 lead with 11 minutes and change remaining. From there, the lead never dipped back to less than double-figures, as Lewis held off a possible Bulldog rally in the final minutes.

Truman battled foul trouble all night, most notably senior forward Mike Carlson, who was limited to just 19 minutes due to two quick first half fouls and two more in the opening minutes of the second half. He eventually scored 10 points to finish in double-figures, as the Truman squad overall shot 50% (23-of-46) for the game. The Bulldogs connected on six three-pointers but went just 13-of-23 (57%) from the foul line.

Meanwhile, Lewis landed five players in double-figures, led by Jeff Jarosz's 23 points on 9-of-14 shooting. Julian Lewis added a 10-point, 11-rebound double-double for the Flyers.

Andrew Vander Zwaag and Billy Daniel also chipped in eight points apiece for the Bulldogs, who continue their two-game weekend road trip with a 3 p.m. tilt on Sunday (January 5) afternoon at UW-Parkside. The Rangers (8-2, 1-0 GLVC) rallied from 19 points down in the second half to defeat Quincy 73-71 on Friday night.
