Wrestling Recap: Truman 25, Benedictine 16

ATCHISON, Kan. – The Bulldog Wrestling team held on for a 25-16 victory over Benedictine (Kan.) College on Tuesday night in a road dual. The team will compete in the Coe College Open on Saturday.

Truman raced out to a 12-0 lead with a forfeit win by J.J. Dorrell at 125 and a fall victory by Ethan Rentschler at 133.

The Ravens closed the gap to 12-11 with three straight victories at 141, 149 and 157 before Devon Fenstermaker righted the ship with a 6-1 decision at 165.

A pivotal point in the match came at 174. Down 9-0 entering the third period, the Ravens' Gabe Suthoff chose the down position looking to score a quick escape. Dustin McClintlock took advantage and turned Suthoff onto his back 29 seconds into the final period for the pinfall win to increase the Bulldogs lead to 21-10.

Josh Wells lost by decision (4-1) at 184 to get the Ravens to within eight team points.

Luke Bornhop had the tall task of facing the NAIA National Runner-up from last season Stephen Loosbrock. Bornhop did enough to avoid the fall and major decision and only lost by a 7-1 score and keep Truman in front 21-16.

Helmut Rentschler took the heavyweight spot and was able to wear down his opponent, nearly finishing the bout with a tech fall before being awarded the 15-2 major victory and clinching the Bulldogs second dual win of the season.
