Tigers Build Early Hole To Down Bulldogs In Home Finale

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – In the final home wrestling dual of the year, the Fort Hays (Kan.) State Tigers overpowered the Truman Bulldogs 32-10 on Tuesday night in Pershing Arena. The Bulldogs will be back at it on Wednesday traveling to Missouri Valley College.

The Tigers (9-5-1; 3-3 MIAA) opened up a 14-0 lead with two major decisions and a forfeit.

The Bulldogs (6-9; 1-6 MIAA) scored the first team points when senior Ryan Maus overcame an early takedown and reversed Ky Biddle into a pinfall victory just 50 seconds into the match. It was Maus' 96th career win and final victory in Pershing Arena.

Colton Schmitz was looking to crack Truman's top 10 in all-time victories but was denied in a hard-fought 4-1 loss at 157. Schmitz and Mitchell Means battled to a scoreless first period while Means rode Schmitz the entire second period to have a riding time advantage. Means then escaped three seconds into period three for a 1-0 lead and scored a takedown with 40 seconds left to secure the win. Schmitz needs one more win to tie for eighth in Truman history with 93 victories.

Devon Fenstermaker clashed with Bradley Little at 165. Fenstermaker jumped ahead 4-3 with a buzzer beating takedown at the end of the first period. Little escaped to tie the match in the second and the two finished the third period knotted at four apiece. In the sudden victory session, Little secured the two-points with 20 seconds remaining to grab the 6-4 win.
