KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – In their first action in nearly a month, the Truman Tennis teams hosted Emporia (Kan.) State University in a double dual at the Truman Courts. The women lost 7-2 to the Lady Hornets while the men were edged 5-4 in a tightly contested battle. The Bulldogs open up conference play on Saturday at home against Quincy (Ill.) University.
 
Women's Recap: Marisa Thome and Holly Cantalupo had singles victories for the Bulldog ladies in a 7-2 loss to the Emporia State Lady Hornets. Thome defeated Jennifer Gerhardt 6-4, 6-0 at number four singles while Cantalupo won 6-3, 1-6, 10-4 over Amy Fugit.
 
Hannah Runez won her first set at number three singles 6-1 but couldn't hold on as Taylor Smith rallied in the final two sets 6-4, 10-5 to take the win. The Bulldogs are now 2-3 overall this season.
 
Men's Recap: The Bulldog men led 2-1 after doubles with victories by Jake Ohlhausen and Griffin Smith at number one and Adam King and Ryan Bunselmeyer at number three.
 
The Hornets took number one and two singles matches in straight sets while on the courts at the same time, Kirk Schlueter rallied for a 3-6, 6-4, 11-9 win at number five to even things up at three points apiece.
 
In the next wave of singles matches, Smith was defeated 6-1, 6-4 at number three while Mike Merchant came from behind to win number six 5-7, 6-3, 10-7.
 
The deciding match was at number four when Andrew Davids defeated Adam King 6-2, 4-6, 10-7 to claim the fifth team point and the match.
 
Truman falls to 2-5 on the season.
