Men Win, Women Fall In GLVC Tennis Opener


KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – On a frigid day, the Truman Tennis teams opened up Great Lakes Valley Conference action on the home courts. The men won two of three doubles and four of six singles to defeat the Hawks 6-3. The women fell to the Lady Hawks 7-2. The teams will travel to Northwest Missouri for a non-conference dual on Monday.
 
Women's Recap: Savannah Everett and Lauren Jin won 8-5 at number two doubles. Kim Birenbaum and Marisa Thome were edged out at number one 9-8 (10-8) and Kelsey Porter and Jessica Gennuso lost 8-5 at number three to send the Lady Hawks to a 2-1 win into singles.
 
Four of the singles matches needed three sets but in the end, it was Quincy prevailing in five of the matches. Gennuso won number two singles needing to rally from a set down. Gennuso lost 4-6 but then took set two 7-6 and the tie-break 9-7.
 
The women fall to 2-4 overall and 0-1 in the GLVC and Quincy improves to 12-2 and 1-0 in the league.
 
Men's Recap: The men took two of three doubles matches with Joe Murphy-Baum and Kirk Schlueter winning 8-2 at number two and Ryan Bunselmeyer and Adam King taking number three 8-1.
 
Murphy-Baum was a straight set winner at number two singles as was Schlueter and Mike Merchant. Adam King took number four in three sets.
 
The Bulldog men are now 3-5 on the season 1-0 in the GLVC.
