Tritons Rally To Take GLVC Pair From Bulldogs

ST. LOUIS – The Bulldog Tennis teams fell to Missouri-St. Louis on Friday in a pair of GLVC league matches. The men lost a narrow 5-4 decision while the women came up short to the Tritons 7-2. The teams have a quick turnaround as they will host William Jewell (Mo.) College on Saturday morning at 10:00 a.m.  
 
Women's Recap: The women were in good shape heading out of doubles with a 2-1 edge. Savannah Everett and Lauren Jin picked up an 8-2 victory at number two doubles over Chandler Duchaine and Selena Smith and Jessica Gennuso and Kelsey Porter won 8-6 at number three doubles.
 
The Triton women, ranked seventh in the latest ITA Regional Rankings, won all six singles matches by straight sets to pick up their second league victory and 10th of the season.
 
Truman falls to 2-6 overall and 0-2 in the GLVC.
 
Men's Recap: The second straight 5-4 men's decision went the other way this time as Truman ended up on the short end against Missouri-St. Louis. The Bulldogs picked up wins in the first two doubles matches with Jake Ohlhausen and Griffin Smith and Joe Murphy-Baum and Kirk Schlueter each winning by 8-6 scores.
 
In singles play, Ohlhausen won at number one in three sets. After winning the first set 6-4, Nils Mueggenburg took set two by a 7-6 tally. Ohlhausen rebounded to take the tie-break 6-3 and the win.
 
Mike Merchant won 6-3, 6-3 at number six singles for the other Truman point.
 
The number two, three and four singles matches went by way of the Tritons in straight sets.
 
The number five singles match between Truman's Kirk Schlueter and UMSL's Irving Corrales was the deciding draw. Schlueter took the first set 6-3 but watched as Corrales rallied to win set two 7-5 and used that momentum to take the finale 6-2.
 
Truman falls to 3-7 overall and 1-1 in GLVC action while the Tritons, ranked seventh in the ITA Regional Rankings, improve to 8-3 and 1-0 in the conference.
