KIRKSVILLE, Mo. - - The 25th-ranked Truman softball team earned a pair of 8-0 victories against in-state and Great Lakes Valley Conference West division rival Missouri S&T on Saturday afternoon, as the Bulldogs came through in the sixth inning of both games to win via run-rule decision.

Truman (22-5, 14-2 GLVC) improved to 6-0 at home this season and moved back into a tie atop the GLVC West division standings with its pair of 8-0 blankings on Saturday. Senior Jessica VanNostrand had a pair of two-hit games, as eight different 'Dogs tallied at least two hits on the afternoon. Meanwhile, Kindra Henze and Kelsea Dorsey kept the Lady Miners (5-18, 2-10 GLVC) off the board for the entire 12 innings of action, as the tandem struck out a combined 10 hitters and allowed just nine hits and two walks on the day.

The Bulldogs close the weekend with a 12 p.m. doubleheader on Sunday afternoon against Drury. The Panthers dropped two at Quincy on Saturday and will bring a 7-21 (4-8 GLVC) record to the Truman Softball Park.

Game 1 Recap – #25 Truman 8, Missouri S&T 0 (6 innings)
It took the Bulldogs a while to get rolling, but eventually the purple and white picked up an 8-0, six-inning victory against S&T behind 14 hits in game one.

Truman scored one in both the first (Andrea Klipsch RBI single to score Danielle Lewellen) and the third (Alexis VanNostrand sacrifice fly to score Kelsey Bollman), before taking to the plate with a purpose in the home half of the fourth. Starting with back-to-back infield singles by Corey Niblett and Lewellen, the Bulldogs recorded seven straight hits – scoring five runs – to build a 7-0 advantage.

The 'Dogs finished off the Lady Miners in game one with a Lewellen single to left with the bags loaded in the bottom of the sixth, plating A. Van Nostrand for the winning run.

Lewellen led all players with three hits in the contest, while Klipsch, Cate Simon, and J. Van Nostrand all recorded extra-base hits. Henze improved to 12-2 on the season with a six inning complete game shutout, allowing six hits and two walks while striking out four.

Game 2 Recap – #25 Truman 8, Missouri S&T 0 (6 innings)
Unlike game one, the Bulldogs jumped all over S&T in game two – scoring five in the first two innings on the way to an identical 8-0, six-inning victory against the Lady Miners to secure the sweep.

Truman used S&T's help in the home half of the first to score four unearned runs on one play, as a Liz Leath one-hopper to short went under the defender's glove and skidded into left-center field. Both Klipsch and Simon scored easily, and J. Van Nostrand came all the way around from first to beat the throw to the plate. Meanwhile, the Lady Miner catcher airmailed a throw into left field trying to get an advancing Leath at third base, allowing the junior to trot home to complete her trip around the bases.

The Bulldogs added another unearned run in the second when Klipsch singled to the right of the shortstop, bringing Caroline Gatti home from third to push Truman's lead to 5-0. J. Van Nostrand would double home pinch-runner Hannah Wehar in the fifth in front of a Whitney Richardson RBI single two batters later for a 7-0 lead.

Eventually, the 'Dogs would plate one final unearned run, as Klipsch reached on an error in the sixth, then came all the way around to score on a Bollman double to left field.

While the Bulldog offense was in full swing, Dorsey retired the first 10 Lady Miners she faced and never allowed a green and gold player to advance beyond second base. She struck out six and surrendered a mere three hits on just 70 pitches to improve to 10-3 on the season.
