KIRKSVILLE, Mo. - - Megan Frkovic finished a one-on-one scoring opportunity just 43 seconds into the first overtime on Sunday afternoon, as the Truman women's soccer team picked up a 2-1 home victory against Southern Indiana at the Bulldog Soccer Park.
 
Truman (3-1, 2-0 GLVC) finished off a perfect 2-0 opening weekend of GLVC action by out-shooting the visiting Screaming Eagles (1-3, 0-2 GLVC) 19-4 on the day – including 11-4 on frame.
 
The Bulldogs put the first notch on the scoreboard in the 12th minute, as Alexis Heffernan logged her fourth goal of the season off a feed from Caitlyn Stephan.
 
Truman carried that lead into the break before USI broke through in the 53rd minute on a goal by Gabriella Korte. It was her first goal of the season and was assisted by Maura Hulme.
 
The onslaught continued by the Bulldog attack, as the squad either narrowly missed or hit the frame multiple times in the second 45 minutes; however, the squads finished regulation knotted at one apiece.
 
The teams had barely settled in for the first overtime when a miscue on the USI back line allowed Frkovic in all alone with keeper Jackie Lohmann. The junior converted her first of the season – finishing an assist from Heffernan – to give Truman the golden goal and its second straight GLVC victory.
 
Nicole Sparks posted three saves in net for the 'Dogs, while Truman also earned five corner kicks on the day.
 
Truman closes a stretch of three games in five days on Tuesday afternoon when the squad hosts Lindenwood at 3 p.m. at the Bulldog Soccer Park. The Lions – members of the MIAA – will bring a 1-1-1 record to Kirksville, with all three matches having come against GLVC opponents (T 0-0 vs. Maryville; L 1-3 at UMSL; W 2-1 (ot) at Missouri S&T).
