Wrestling Recap: Truman 47, Graceland 3

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – The home opener for the Truman Wrestling team was successful as they dominated Graceland (Iowa) University 47-3 on Tuesday night in Pershing Arena. The Bulldogs improved to 5-2 in dual matches this season and will face #7 McKendree (Ill.) on Friday evening on the road.

The Yellowjackets spotted Truman 24 points on four open bouts and the Bulldogs won five of the six contested matches.

After J.J. Dorrell had his hand raised in a walkover win at 125, Graceland got three points back when Cartland Allen shutout Ethan Rentschler 7-0. From there, the rout was on.

Rafael Lopez broke open a one point match in the third period of his 141-pound tilt. Lopez got a quick reversal to go up 6-3 then after an escape by Brandon Seward, Lopez closed the deal with a takedown at the 11 second mark to clinch the 9-4 win.

Andrew Still won by forfeit at 149 then Roark Whittington scored a first period fall over Dakota Britt at 157.

Two more opens were awarded to the Bulldogs at 165 (Devon Fenstermaker) and 174 (Josh Wells) then Ryan Ward took two seconds to get an escape in the third to go up 6-3 in his match at 184, then he too got a late takedown to clinch his match 9-3.

Chase Wrisinger won by fall at the 1:22 mark at 197 and Helmut Rentschler closed things out with a dominating technical fall win over Ryan Paige at 285.
