Volleyball Swept by No. 10 Hawks

KANSAS CITY – The Truman volleyball team ran into a tough Rockhurst side on Friday night, as the 10th-ranked Hawks took a Great Lakes Valley Conference West division contest by a 3-0 score.

Match Breakdown:
  • Rockhurst used an efficient offensive attack all night to keep the Bulldogs on tilt throughout the match, as the 10th-ranked Hawks hit .387 as a team with seven attack errors. Truman countered at .112 with 34 kills.
  • The Hawks got out to big leads in each of the first two sets, jumping on Truman 10-2 in the opening frame and 10-3 in the second. The third set was much tighter throughout, with the teams playing to 16-13 Rockhurst before a 4-2 spurt pushed the Hawk lead to five at 20-15. The Bulldogs go the deficit to four before RU closed out the match with a 5-1 run to pick up the 25-17 decision.
  • Kayla Bastian reached double-figures offensively for Truman with 10 kills and an ace, while Abby Heise added five kills, 11 assists, and seven digs. Bailey O'Drobinak hit .333 on nine swings with four kills.
 
Extra Notes:
·         Truman moved to 8-4 against Rockhurst all-time with Friday night's loss, including a 2-2 split since the Bulldogs joined the GLVC in 2013.
 
Up Next:
  • The Bulldogs will close the weekend with a 5 p.m. match at William Jewell on Saturday (Oct. 3) night. The Cardinals are 4-10 overall (0-5 GLVC West) after suffering a three-set home sweep by Quincy on Friday night.
