Efficient Bulldogs Sweep Past William Jewell

LIBERTY, Mo. – The Truman volleyball team rebounded from a loss on Friday night with a quick three-set sweep on Saturday afternoon, as the Bulldogs dispatched William Jewell College by a 3-0 score to split a weekend trip to the Kansas City area.

Match Breakdown:
  • The Truman offense was on fire throughout, hitting a collective .315 with 44 kills on 108 swings, as the Bulldogs bounced back from a 3-0 loss at No. 10 Rockhurst on Friday night with a 3-0 win of their own on Saturday.
  • William Jewell could not contain Truman's entire middle hitting corps, as the quintet of Bailey O'Drobinak, Ali Patterson, Emilee Walters, Natalie Brimeyer, and Holly Hildebrand put away 20 kills on just 22 attempts with no errors, for a group hitting line of .909.
  • The Bulldogs sided-out at a 61 percent rate for the match, and only once – at 1-0 in the third set – did the purple and white trail. The sets were never in doubt, as Truman built early leads of 10-2, 16-4, and 11-5.
  • 13 different Bulldogs scored at least one point, with Patterson's 8.5 (seven kills, one solo block and one block assist) leading the team.
  • Abby Heise led all players with eight kills, while Claire Wandrey recorded 17 digs to also pace all participants.
 
Extra Notes:
·         William Jewell's .036 hitting line was the third time this season that a Bulldog opponent failed to reach the .100 mark.
·         12 new career-highs were set on the night, including the first collegiate kill for Brimeyer.
·         The Bulldogs are now 5-0 against William Jewell all-time, including a third straight sweep in the past three seasons.
·         Truman will host William Jewell in Pershing Arena again on Friday, Nov. 13 at 7 p.m.
 
Up Next:
The Bulldogs will play in front of the home crowd three times in five days during this upcoming Homecoming week, beginning at 7 p.m. on Tuesday (Oct. 6) night against Quincy. The Hawks are 8-8 overall (3-3 GLVC West) after also splitting the Kansas City trip this weekend.
