Volleyball Sweeps Hawks in Mid-Week Tussle

KIRKSVILLE – Junior Kayla Bastian finished with nine kills and 10 digs, while senior Abby Heise posted a 21-assist, 12-dig double-double for the Truman volleyball team, as the Bulldogs picked up a 3-0 sweep against conference-rival Quincy on Tuesday night in Pershing Arena.

Match Breakdown:
  • The Bulldogs got out to a slow start in Tuesday night's contest, falling behind 13-7 in the opening set to Quincy. However, backed by a strong serving rally by freshman Bailey Mason, the Bulldogs clawed back into the match quickly – tying the set at 13-all. After QU scored the next two to go on top, 15-13, Truman rattled off a 12-3 run to finish the set, picking up a 25-18 win to go up 1-0.
  • While the first set saw seven ties and four lead changes, the second and third sets were all Truman in control, as the Bulldogs hit .310 in the second set and .243 in the third to pick up 25-23 and 25-18 decisions. The final two sets saw just a total of two ties and one lead change.
  • On the night, the Bulldogs hit .223 to run its consecutive sets won streak to six. Bastian's nine kills led all players, as she backed it up with a .258 hitting line. Sophomore Jasmine Brown finished with six kills, two aces, and a block, while senior Emilee Walters and junior Lacey Hill put away five kills apiece.
  • Heise notched her double-double, leading the Bulldogs in both assists (21) and digs (12), while both Bastian (10) and freshman Claire Wandrey (10) hit double-figure digs. Junior Bailey O'Drobinak's three block assists helped the Bulldogs finish with eight on the night, as each team totaled four blocks.
  • The Bulldogs held QU to just a .104 hitting line, with four Hawks finishing with six kills each.
 
Extra Notes:
·         Heise's 21 assists set a new career-high for the Illinois-native.
·         Truman is now 44-18 all-time against QU, including 14 consecutive victories dating back to 1998.
·         The Bulldogs will travel to Quincy later this season on Tuesday, Nov. 10.

  • Homecoming weekend hits the Truman campus this weekend, and the Bulldog volleyball team kicks off the festivities on Friday night at 7 p.m. when it hosts Missouri-St. Louis. The Tritons were 3-0 winners against Maryville on Tuesday night, improving their season record to 7-10 overall (3-4 GLVC West).
