Griffons Top Bulldogs in Mid-Week Clash

KIRKSVILLE - - After jumping out to a quick 1-0 lead, the Truman volleyball team couldn't hold on Tuesday night, as visiting Missouri Western picked up a 3-1 victory in a Pershing Arena non-conference tilt.

The Bulldogs (13-10) hit .303 in the opening set and held MWSU (18-5) to a -.025 attack line of its own in cruising to a 25-17 win. Truman sided-out at a 70% clip in the set and got four kills from Bailey O'Drobinak, three kills from Ali Patterson, and three more kills from Kayla Bastian.

However, sets two, three, and four were all Griffons, as the visiting black and gold picked up 25-19, 25-10, and 25-20 decisions to win the match in four sets. MWSU rebounded to hit .219 overall, while Truman finished the night at .184 with 44 kills and 18 errors on 141 total swings.

For the match, Truman put three players in double-figures with points, led by Bastian's 13 on 11 kills (.146 hitting), two block assists, and an ace. She also tacked on 11 digs for a double-double. Patterson hit .350 with 10 kills and four block assists for 12 points, and Emilee Walters tallied 10.5 points behind nine kills (.273 hitting) and three block assists. O'Drobinak just missed the 10-point mark, as she finished with six kills (.312 hitting), two solo blocks, and two block assists.

Abby Heise finished with a career-high 37 assists and eight digs, while both Claire Wandrey (17) and Sadie Pafford (11) reached double-figures in digs. Truman out-blocked MWSU 8-4 but was out-aced by a 6-1 count.

MWSU was led by a 17-kill effort by Jessie Thorup, while setter Jordan Chohon finished with 44 assists, 15 digs and three aces.
