Men's Basketball stunned at buzzer to close Midwest Challenge

ST. LOUIS - - Grant Hill to Christian Laettner is an iconic college basketball highlight from the Kentucky vs. Duke NCAA Div. I 1992 East Regional Final. The Truman men's basketball team wishes it hadn't witnessed a re-enactment on Saturday afternoon.
 
Ohio Dominican went the length of the floor in 1.9 seconds, as Mike DeLeon hit Trent Weaver with a full-court pass, and Weaver hit the turn-around as time expired to stun the Bulldogs, 64-62, in the final game of the Midwest Regional Challenge, hosted by Maryville University.
 
Truman (1-1) played catch-up for most of the game, as ODU (2-0) led by as many as 10 with 12:26 to play in regulation before the Bulldogs made a final push in the waning minutes. Down by five with 2:39 on the clock, junior guard Kyle Kanaskie (STATE COLLEGE, PA. / State College HS) hit a pair of free throws before senior guard Cole Myers (ANKENY, IOWA / Ankeny HS) buried a three-pointer with 59 seconds left to tie the game at 62-all.
 
After ODU missed a jumper, the Bulldogs had a chance to win it, but a lay-up try by junior guard Cory Myers (ANKENY, IOWA / Ankeny HS) twirled out with four seconds left. The Panthers called a quick timeout, setting up the final heroics that handed the 'Dogs their first loss of the 2015-16 season.
 
Three Bulldogs finished in double-figures, led by Cory Myers' 19 points. Kanaskie poured in 16 points, while junior Connor Erickson (OVERLAND PARK, KAN. / Blue Valley North HS) chipped in 10. Redshirt freshman Nikola Pesic (NOVI SAD, SERBIA / Isidora Sekulic) finished with a team-high five rebounds, while both Myers brothers led the 'Dogs with three assists.
 
Truman shot 41.1% for the game, including a 7-for-22 mark from three-point range. ODU out-rebounded the 'Dogs 39-29, although Truman was the most opportunistic – turning 16 Panther turnovers into 21 points on the offensive end.
 
The Bulldogs will open the home portion of the 2015-16 season on Wednesday (Nov. 18) night when they host Central Christian (Mo.) at 7:30 p.m. in Pershing Arena.
