Dorrell's Four Wins Lead Truman Wrestling At Augustana Duals

KIRKSVILLE, Mo.  – J.J. Dorrell went an undefeated 4-0 at 125-pounds but the Truman Wrestling team could not crack the win column at the Augustana Duals on Saturday. The team heads to the Midwest Classic in Indianapolis next weekend.

Dorrell won his first match over Chadron State's Brandon Kile by major decision then pinned Morningside's Devin Phaly in the second period. Dorrell cruised to another major win against Northwestern (Iowa) Austin Boles 19-9. In the finale, Dorrell was squared off against Augustana's Javier Vieyra. The two were tied at four in the third period when Dorrell was awarded a stalling penalty point to get the win.

Dorrell provided the team points of the day against Chadron but the Eagles would win the next six matches to lead 26-4. Chase Wrisinger scored a pin and Samuel Reeves pulled out a 4-3 win at 197 before Austin Dovin pinned Daniel Sotelo at the 3:55 mark to end the dual 26-19.

The Morningside Mustangs were the next opponent and Dorrell staked the Bulldogs to a 6-0 lead following his fall victory. A tech fall win at 133 cut the lead to 6-5. Rafael Lopez won 5-3 at 141. Steven Serbinski and Dustin McClintock squared the dual at 15 points apiece with wins. Logan Moore put the Mustangs ahead with a 6-1 win over Wrisinger but Reeves drew the 'Dogs even with a 7-3 win at 197. The dual came down to the last match with Andrew Pistillo pinning Dovin 55 seconds into the second period.

The dual with Northwestern was a back-and-forth affair with Truman leading 16-12 following Roark Whittington's win by forfeit at 157. Northwestern jumped ahead with Brandon Shuler's third period pin over Serbinski at 165. Northwestern won the next two matches by tech fall and fall to secure the dual victory. Dovin ended the meet with a 5-0 win at 285 for Truman.

The Vikings came into the final dual with Truman ranked #11 in the latest Division II Coaches Poll. Dorrell's one-point win gave Truman the early lead but the Vikings won the remaining nine matches for the win. Three of the bouts were won by fall and three more by major decision.
The Bulldogs are now 4-6 in duals this season.
