SAUGET, Ill.  – The Truman Baseball team saw their winning streak come to a halt at six with a 5-4 extra inning loss in Sunday's opener but bounced back with a commanding 7-0 victory to earn three of four from Illinois Springfield. The Bulldogs will face the University of Missouri on Tuesday evening at 6 p.m. in Columbia.

Paul Trenhaile drove in four on the day while going 5-of-8 at the dish with a pair of doubles while Dave Gambino capped off a huge series with a double, home run and a 4-for-6 performance. For the weekend, Gambino hit .714 (10-of-14) while hitting for the cycle with a pair of doubles, a triple and home run with 6 RBIs. His on-base + slugging percentage was an astronomical 1.902.

All four starters went at least six innings and as an entire staff, had a 3.23 ERA with 21 strikeouts to nine walks. The Prairie Stars hit .248 as a team.

Game 1 Recap:
All good things must come to an end and Truman's six-game winning streak was stopped when Aaron Kuper singled with two outs in the bottom of the eighth to give the Prairie Stars a 5-4 walk off win in the opener.

The Bulldogs jumped out to a 3-0 lead with Paul Trenhaile driving in the first two runs in the first and third innings. His groundout in the first scored Zak Larkin, who began the game with a double and Trenhaile doubled in the third scoring Jarod Hahn from first. Trenhaile would circle the bases as he went to third on the throw home and came in when the catcher threw down to third wildly.

UIS got a run back in the bottom of the third on a sac fly and tied the game in the fifth on a two-run homer off the bat of Brooks Rohrman.

Both teams made defensive plays in the seventh to send it to extra innings. UIS got a 1-2-3 double play to end the top of the seventh and catcher Joey Gardner threw out the potential winning run trying to steal third base in the bottom.

The Bulldogs pushed across a go-ahead run in the eighth when T.J. Wood got an infield single that scored Brendan Trimble to make it 4-3 Truman.

Austin Tinsley was summoned from the pen to nail down the save but was greeted with a single. A one-out walk put the tying run in scoring position and Troy Cantu singled through the left side scoring pinch runner Ryan Walling. Tinsley got the second out on a pop up however Kuper singled to right center to end the game.

Alex Hoffman got a no decision after going seven innings while Tinsley fell to 0-1.

Game 2 Recap:
The setback didn't seem to faze the Bulldogs as they came out swinging in the second game. Trenhaile and Gambino each delieved RBI hits in the top of the first to stake the Bulldogs out to a 2-0 lead and Kent Frantz did the rest pitching a complete-game shutout for the win.

Frantz retired nine of the first 10 hitters he faced and allowed four hits for the seven-inning victory. He struck out eight while walking no one to earn his second victory of the season.

Gambino added a third run in the third with his second home run of the season, a solo shot to center. Trenhaile and Gambino again grounded out but scored runs in the process in a two-run fifth.

Tyler Hill pinch ran in the sixth, stolen second, advanced to third on a ground out before scoring on a wild pitch and Trenhaile scored the final run on a Blake Deaton fielder's choice.

The Bulldogs will step up to play the University of Missouri on Tuesday. Truman was originally scheduled to play at Southwest Baptist but due to the Bearcats' conference obligations, had to push that doubleheader to April. The Tigers had some openings on their schedule due to early season cancelations and enter Tuesday's affair with a 10-4 record after being swept at home by Milwaukee this weekend. The teams last met in March of 2013 with Mizzou winning 14-4.
