KIRKSVILLE, Mo.  – The Truman Bulldogs and Quincy Hawks combined for 36 hits in the opener but game two turned into a pitcher's duel as the two teams split their GLVC doubleheader on Wednesday. Quincy extended their winning streak to 12 games with a 10-6 win in the opener but Truman snapped the streak with a 2-1 walk-off win in the nightcap.

David Jacob was the hitting star for Quincy as he hit safely in his first six at bats and was 7-of-8 on the day with four RBIs. Chris Iliopoulos collected four hits in eight at bats for Truman with a two-run homer in game one. Paul Trenhaile moved to two hits of tying the Truman career hits record with three on the day and extended his hitting streak to 23 games.

Both teams had 25 hits on the day with Truman hitting .373 and the Hawks batting .368.

Truman will host Rockhurst (Mo.) University for a four-game GLVC series beginning Friday at noon.

Game 1 Recap: The Hawks outslugged the Bulldogs to take the opener 10-6. Quincy had 19 hits in the game with David Jacobs going 5-for-5 and driving in three runs.

The Hawks loaded the bases to start the second inning but left with only one run on a sac fly by Peter Cunningham. Starter Nate Lukas got the next two hitters to ground out to get out of the jam.

The Bulldogs put a crooked number on the scoreboard in the bottom half of the inning as Brendan Trimble led off with a walk and Chris Iliopoulos hit a laser through the wind over the right field fence to put Truman on top 2-1. Wyatt Fones singled and T.J. Wood laced a ball down the left field line for a double. Zak Larkin flied out to right scoring Fones on the sac fly and Paul Trenhaile hit a two-out single to make it 4-1 Bulldogs.

After a scoreless third in which each team stranded the bases loaded, the Hawks loaded them again in the fourth. A walk forced in a run and Jacob hit a two-out single through the right side to knot things up at four.

Justin Blechle drove a ball down the right field line that stayed fair for a two-run homer to give the Hawks the lead in the fifth. Quincy added three more in the seventh on three hits. Brynn Martinez singled to score Blechle and Kory Wisdom followed with a double down the left field line plating the speedy Martinez from first.

Truman fought back with three straight hits of their own in the bottom of the seventh. T.J. Wood popped up to short for the second out but Larkin came through in the clutch with a single to right center cutting the Hawks' lead to 9-6. Truman left a pair on as Jarod Hahn ended the inning on a foul out.

Jacob gave the Hawks' an insurance run in the ninth with a one-out double down the right field line scoring Dominic Miles.

Again Truman wouldn't go away as Iliopoulos led off the last at bat with a double to center. Adam Gregorich was hit by the next pitch and Larkin's single with one out bringing Hahn to the plate representing the tying run. Hahn again fouled out to third and Trenhaile struck out swinging to end the game.

The Bulldogs left 15 on base after collecting 17 hits while the Hawks left 15 on the base paths after 19 hits.
Shane Strom, making his Quincy debut, got the win in relief as he was one of five Hawks' pitchers in the opener. Lukas got a no decision for the Bulldogs getting the start as Chris Beckmann was tagged with the loss after three innings of work.

Game 2 Recap: Cody Gardner and Jason O'Brien quieted the bats in game two as each pitcher went the distance in the nightcap.

Jarod Hahn's safety squeeze bunt with one-out in the bottom of the seventh made Gardner a five-game winner on the year as it broke a 1-1 tie.

Truman scored first as Zak Larkin led off with a single to right and after moving around to third came in on a balk to O'Brien with two outs.

Gardner needed just 83 pitches as he cruised until the sixth. Brynn Martinez led off the game with a 14-pitch at bat then in the sixth, led off with an infield single. Kory Wisdom laid down a bunt and Martinez raced all the way to third on the play. Gardner got the strikeout of Dominic Miles but David Jacob continued to be a thorn in the side of the Bulldogs as he tied the game with a single through the hole on the right side.

Truman had runners at the corners with one-out in the bottom half of the sixth but Brendan Trimble and Chris Iliopoulos both struck out swinging.

T.J. Wood lined a double with one-out in the bottom of the seventh and moved to third on a wild pitch. Larkin drew a walk and with the infield playing halfway, Hahn redeemed his day by placing a perfect bunt between the mound and first allowing Wood to score easily for the Truman win.

Gardner allowed six hits and one earned run while striking out three to move to 5-1 on the season. It was his fifth complete game of the year.

O'Brien gave up eight hits striking out six and walking two to fall to 1-2.
