Tennis Sees Season Come To An End With Split

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – The Truman Tennis teams closed out the 2015 season with a split against Illinois Springfield on Wednesday. The women won 8-1 while the men fell 7-2 to the Prairie Stars.

Kim Birenbaum and Marisa Thome were 8-3 winners at number one doubles. Lindsey Schlichting and Lauren Jin took number two doubles 8-1 and Savannah Everett and Kelsey Porter won number three 8-2.

In singles matches, Kati Austin and Holly Cantalupo did not drop a game in winning their matches 6-0, 6-0 at number five and six singles respectively. Jin, Thome and Schlichting also won their singles matches by straight sets.

Jake Ohlhausen left the Truman courts for the final time as a winner at number one singles. Ohlhausen defeated Gerard Capinell 6-3, 6-1 in his senior finale.

In their final doubles match together, Ohlhausen and Griffin Smith came up just short to Hayden Esker and Cole Buehnerkemper. The Prairie Stars duo got a break point and won the number one singles match 8-6. Ohlhausen and Smith had been Truman's top doubles team for the past three years.

The other team point Truman got was at number three doubles with Paul Province and Austin Buck winning 8-2.

The Bulldogs honored their seniors prior to the season finale.
