KIRKSVILLE, Mo.  – The Bulldog Baseball secured their second straight trip into the postseason and notched the program's first 30-win campaign as they defeated Maryville (Mo.) University 4-3 in extra innings on a walk-off wild pitch.

The Bulldogs will await to see who will be the opponent and game time for the Great Lakes Valley Conference tournament that will begin on Thursday in Westfield, Indiana, a suburb of Indianapolis. Truman finishes the season third in the GLVC West Division with a record of 21-15 and should be the fourth seed in the eight-team field.

It took dramatics to pull out win number 30 as after leading 3-0, the Saints scored three times in the seventh to tie things up. Peter Young was called upon for Truman with a runner on in the eighth. On the second pitch he threw, Wyatt Fones caught Zack Ruckman napping at first base for the pick off then Young got a pop-up and flyout to left to leave a runner on.

Young would pitch a 1-2-3 ninth before giving way to Andrew Range.

Range showed no signs of rust in his first action on the mound since March 21. He put down the Saints in order in the tenth behind two defensive plays by T.J. Wood in center.

Pinch runner Tyler Hill was stranded at third for Truman in the bottom of their ninth then in the tenth Michael Venturella led off with a walk. A sac bunt by Paul Trenhaile moved the winning run up to second then a shallow hit to left by Dave Gambino made it first and third. Chris Iliopoulos was intentionally walked to load the bases and Maryville brought in Brandon Downey out of the bullpen.

Brendan Trimble was the pinch hitter for the Bulldogs and on 0-1 pitch, the ball bounced and skipped far enough away from the plate to allow Venturella to score the winning run.

After scoring two in the bottom of the first on a single by Gambino and a safety squeeze bunt by Iliopoulos, the Bulldogs waited until the sixth to score again.

Gambino would cross the plate on another safety squeeze by Jarod Hahn to make it 3-0.

Alex Hoffman ran into trouble in the seventh. A one-out double by Troy Payton started things. Andrew Naegeli followed with a single and Daniel Barnett reached on an error to score the first Saints run.

A balk moved runners up and both scored on a two-out single by Kaleb Depew to tie things up.

Hoffman went six and two-thirds and was followed to the mound by Matt Tometz, who got the final out in the seventh, Young and eventual winner Range.

Maryville tossed five hurlers on their final day of action with starter Steven Reynolds pitching four innings and getting a no decision.

Prior to the game, six Truman seniors were honored. Zak Larkin, Jarod Hahn, Blake Deaton, Cody Gardner, Josh DeRouse and Paul Trenhaile. DeRouse was honored with the creation of the Josh "JD" DeRouse Award to be given to future players that show the same enthusiastic spirit, loyalty, dedication and hard work in the program.

In addition, Dr. Troy Paino, University President was on hand to present the graduating seniors their diplomas as with the GLVC Tournament next weekend, they will miss the commencement ceremony.
