Season Stats

KANSAS CITY - - The Truman State University men's basketball team scored 20 seconds into the game and never trailed on Saturday afternoon, as the Bulldogs built a 20-point first-half lead to cruise to an 84-74 victory at Rockhurst University.

The Bulldogs, who shot a blazing 69% (20-of-29) from the field in the opening 20 minutes, led the Hawks by 17 at the break and by as many as 23 in the second-half on the way to their second straight victory. Truman, now at 19-8 overall and 11-6 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, will be playing for either the No. 6 or No. 7 seed in the upcoming GLVC tournament in the regular season finale on Thursday night, when the Bulldogs visit Quincy (12-5 GLVC) at 7:30 p.m.

But on Saturday, Truman wasted no time avenging an early-season loss to the Hawks in Pershing Arena with an all-out assault in the first half, as the Bulldogs hit 8-of-12 from long range and added 4-of-6 free throws to build a 51-31 lead with 2:56 to play in the first frame. It was only with 30 seconds left in the game that Rockhurst clawed to within single-digits again, but the Bulldogs closed the game at the foul line to pick up win No. 19 on the season.

Five Bulldogs finished in double-figures on an offensively-balanced afternoon, with redshirt senior Andrew Vander Zwaag hitting five three-pointers off the bench en route to a team-high 17 points in just 18 minutes of action. Redshirt junior Cory Myers finished just shy of a double-double with 16 points and nine rebounds, while sharing team-high honors in assists with redshirt junior Dwight Sistrunk, Jr., with five apiece.

Senior Cole Myers added 14 points, while juniors Kyle Kanaskie and Billy Daniel chipped in 12 and 10 points each, respectively. Truman shot 61.1% overall from the floor for the game against the league's third-ranked defense, connecting on 33-of-54 shots. The Bulldogs hit 10 three-pointers on 20 attempts and clamped down on the defensive end by holding RU (12-13, 7-10 GLVC) to just 38% from the field. Austin LeVan led RU with 21 points on seven three-pointers off the bench.
