Wrestling Recap: Truman 27, Benedictine 19

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – The Bulldog Wrestling team remained undefeated at home as they won a hard fought dual with Benedictine (Kan.) 27-19 in the Pershing Arena finale for the team.

Truman improves to 8-9 overall in dual matches and will be in action on Sunday at the Missouri Valley College Open.

Match Highlights:

The Ravens were open at 125 and 285 with Truman's J.J. Dorrell and Austin Dovin picking up the forfeit wins.
Ethan Rentschler scored eight first period points and led 10-1 before pinning C.J. Ikenberry at the 4:55 mark to put Truman up 12-0.
Rafael Lopez and Josh Romero exchanged several shots in the first period of their 149-pound match with Lopez getting a takedown with 43 seconds remaining only to have Romero escape 20 seconds later. Romero tied it with an escape in period two while Lopez escaped in period three to take a lead. Both men were fighting for a takedown late with Romero getting the winning takedown with 13 seconds left.
Steven Serbinski took a 2-1 lead in his 165-pound bout with a takedown with five seconds left in the second period. He would score two more points in the third to win his match 5-2.
Dustin McClintock was fighting from his back during most of his 174-pound match. Gabe Suthoff took McClintock down nine seconds into the bout and rode him for 6:48 seconds. Suthoff got two nearfalls to win the match 9-2 to trim Truman's lead to 15-13.
Senior Chase Wrisinger, who along with Luke Bornhop were honored prior to the dual, clinched the victory for the Bulldogs with a big first period pin over Connor Kenyon at 184. Wrisinger took Kenyon down hard at the 1:32 mark, got two nearfall points before finally finishing off Kenyon with 50 seconds left in the first.
