KIRKSVILLE, Mo.  – The Truman Baseball team and the Southwest Baptist Bearcats traded victories in a non-conference doubleheader to complete their four-game season series. The Bulldogs won game one 6-4 and the Bearcats took game two 8-1 to earn the series win.

Truman will host Lewis University for a four-game weekend series starting Saturday at noon.

Game 1 Recap:
Two RBIs from Nick Agliolo and Dave Gambino plus a three-run third gave Truman a 6-4 win in the opener.

The two teams exchanged a pair of runs in the first with Gambino driving in one on a groundout and Jason Priest lifting a sac fly to center scoring Agliolo to tie things up.

The Bearcats went back on top in the second when Christian Binger hit an infield single with the bases loaded to score Blake Hobbs.

Agliolo singled in TJ Wood to start the three-run third. Gambino followed with another groundout RBI and Adam Gregorich singled to center to give Truman a 5-3 lead.

SBU put the first two on in the fourth but a double play negated a potential big inning. Calab Sneed got a two-out single through the right side to score Tervor Bowling cutting Truman's lead to 5-4. Alex Hoffmann came in to relief starter Nate Lukas to retire the final hitter, stranding two on base.

The Bulldogs got the run back in the bottom of the fourth when both Trevor Bell and Joey Gardner started the at bat with singles. Wood then got a bunt single to load the bases. Mason King hit into a force play at the plate but Agliolo hit the sac fly to right scoring Gardner for the insurance run.

Hoffmann pitched a 1-2-3 sixth and gave way to Peter Young in the seventh. Young got the first hitter but the next two reached on base hits. Cleanup hitter Carter Sherban grounded into the 6-4-3 double play to end the game.

Hoffmann improved to 2-0 and Young recorded his second save of the season. Miles Kilgore took the loss for SBU.

Game 2 Recap:
Brad Molski went through the SBU lineup clean the first time through but the Bearcats got to the Bulldog pitcher in the fourth. A leadoff single by Sneed was followed by a bunt single by Binger. Sherban singled in one on a hit to left and Cody Massey drove in another with a sac fly.

Truman got a run back in the bottom of the inning when Dave Gambino tripled down into the right field corner. He would score on a groundout by Brendan Trimble.

However, the Bearcats would break things open with three runs in the sixth and three more in the eighth while holding Truman to their lowest run output in a game this season at one.

Jay Kaufman pitched the first seven innings, allowing seven hits and walking three but relievers Brian Womack and Calvin Lovig faced the minimum in the final two innings.

Trevor Bell and TJ Wood both collected two of Truman's seven hits in the contest.

Doubleheader Notes:
  • TJ Wood was 4-for-5 on the afternoon for the Bulldogs.
  • Nick Agliolo extended his hitting streak to 11 games with three on the afternoon.
