KIRKSVILLE, Mo.  – Freshman Charlie Kreh golfed a 2-2 pitch over the right field fence for a walk-off Grand Slam to help the Bulldogs split day one of a four-game weekend series with Missouri-St. Louis. The Tritons took the opener 8-6 before Kreh sent the crowd home happy with a 6-2 victory in the bottom of the 10th of game two. The teams return to action on Sunday at noon.

Game 1 Recap:
The Tritons struck first with a two-out RBI by Tanner Hudson after leadoff hitter Jose Ortiz walked and swiped second. UMSL added a pair on a home run in the third off the bat of Justin Busekrus to make it 3-0.

After the Bulldogs got out of a mini jam in the fourth, consecutive walks issued to Mason King and Nick Agliolo started a rally for Truman in their half of the inning. Jason Priest singled to left to load the bases but Brendan Trimble popped up behind short for the second out. Adam Gregorich shot one through the gap on the right side to score two to cut the lead down to one.

The Tritons would get an unearned run in the sixth as Tom DeCero scored on a single by Jake Beckwith.

Agliolo walked to lead off the sixth and again with two outs, Trimble redeemed himself with his second home run of the season to tie the game at four apiece.

The tie was short-lived. Reliever Austin Tinsley retired the first two in the seventh but a single compounded by an error put Hudson at second. He would score on a base hit by Matt Foster. Later, DeCero would single in Foster for the 6-4 lead.

The Tritons added two more in the ninth on a home run by Hudson.

Truman tried to make it interesting in their last at bat. Trevor Bell, Wyatt Fones and Josh Abegg all singled to load the bases. Mason King grounded to first that resulted in a 3-2 double-play. Agliolo followed with a hit through the right side to score pinch runner Jon Lyons and the ball skirted away far enough to allow Abegg to come in. However Agliolo was thrown out at third trying to take advantage of the miscues to end the game.

Kurt McGuire improved to 7-1 with 7.1 innings of work and allowed four runs on four hits. Tinsley was tagged with the loss after relieving starter Tyler Spencer in the seventh. Spencer allowed nine hits and three earned runs.

Game 2 Recap:
The advertised seven-inning game needed three extra innings after the Tritons rallied to tie the game in the top of the seventh at two apiece.

UMSL struck first in the third when Dominic Orlando doubled and scored on a single by Justin Busekrus.

Truman got the lead on a clutch two-out hit by T.J. Wood in the bottom of the fourth. Wood's blooper fell into the Bermuda Triangle between left, center and short allowing both Brendan Trimble and Adam Gregorich to give the Bulldogs a 2-1 lead.

Kent Frantz worked the first six then gave way to closer Peter Young for the seventh. Young was greeted by a rifled shot up the middle off the bat of JonMichael Weaver. Things got worse when Beckwith tried to sacrifice the runner up and Young's throw to second was online but muffed by the shortstop for the error. Jose Ortiz moved the runners into scoring positon with a sac bunt. Orlando then grounded to Kyle Smith at second that scored pinch runner Brendan Riesmeyer to tie the game.  Young got Busekrus to fly out to center to end the threat.

Young worked around leadoff hits in both the eighth and ninth innings and Truman went quietly in their at bats as starter Jake Renfrow continued on the hill for UMSL.

Some rules intrigue delayed the start of the 10th inning. Young raced out to take the hill but Dan Davis wanted to go to Adrian Morris for the frame. Since Young crossed the chalk and entered the field of play, he had to remain for at least one batter in the inning. It turned out to be a good thing as Young got the Tritons in order in his longest relief outing of his career.

Joey Gardner led off the bottom of the tenth by being hit by reliever Jon Shanker. Wood sacrificed pinch runner Jon Lyons up to second before Mason King flied out to right.  Shanker issued an intentional walk to Agliolo then walked Dave Gambino to load the bases.

With the count at 2-2 to Charlie Kreh, the freshman, went down and shot the ball over the right field fence for the walk-off victory. It was the third Grand Slam this season by a Bulldog.
