RECAP: Upper Iowa Defeats Truman Wrestling In Season Opener

FAYETTE, Iowa – The eighth-ranked Upper Iowa Wrestling team downed the Truman Bulldogs 51-3 in the season opener for both squads on Thursday night.

The Peacocks used seven pinfall victories with five coming in the first period to build up the big lead. Freshman Nick Peglow was defeated by decision 12-5 in his collegiate debut at 149 while sophomore heavyweight Ashton Mutuwa picked up the only points for the Bulldogs with a 4-3 win in overtime.

Mutuwa defeated Triston Westerlund after tying the match in the third period with an escape. Mutuwa earned the win due to a seven second riding time advantage in the extra period.

The Bulldogs will compete at the Iowa State Cyclone Open on Saturday in Ames.
