Game 2 Box Score (HTML)

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – The Bulldog Baseball team came back three times in the nightcap to earn a day one split against the University of Wisconsin Parkside Rangers in the home debut on Saturday.

Josh Abegg's full-count, bases loaded walk in the bottom of the eighth capped the comeback in game two as the Bulldogs walked off with a 6-5 victory. That win enabled Truman to split after the Rangers scored seven early runs and won 13-3 in the opener.

The teams return to the diamond on Sunday at noon for another non-conference twinbill. The games will be streamed online on the GLVCSN.com/Truman beginning at noon.

Game One Recap:
Leadoff hitter Kyle Schultz got things rolling early for the Rangers as he stroked a triple in the top of the first and UW-Parkside built up a big 7-0 lead after two innings.

The Bulldogs threated in their half of the second as they loaded the bases with no outs. However, hurler Mario Samuel worked out of the jam without allowing a run to cross the plate.

Truman broke through in the third. Mason King singled and scored, Brendan Trimble walked and scored and Dave Gambino singled and scored on a sac fly by Jason Priest.  However the big inning was avoided again as Nick Agliolo hit into an inning ending double play.

The Rangers struck three more times in the fourth and added a pair in the sixth and a single run in the ninth to win. UWP belted out 16 hits and chased starter Kent Frantz after two innings.

Schultz was 4-for-5 with two runs scored and Samuel fanned six in 6.2 innings for UW-Parkside.

Charlie Kreh had two of Truman's seven hits.

Game Two Recap:
Parkside jumped out to 2-0 in the first inning on a two-out singles by Jake Kolasinski and Nick Janssen.

The Bulldogs cut the lead in half with their own two-out hit by Jon Lyons in the second.

Nick Agliolo led off the fourth with a single and later swiped second. Brendan Trimble tied the game with a two-out single up the middle.

A two-out single through the left side of the infield by Domenic Hammudeh in the sixth put the Rangers back in front 3-2.

Lyons drew a leadoff walk in Truman's half of the sixth and Abegg followed with a bunt single. After a pitching change, Mason King moved the runners up 90 feet with a sac bunt and Trimble walked to load the bases.

Dave Gambino hit a sac fly to center to score Lyons to tie the game at three and Kreh walked to reload the bases. Jason Priest lined out sharply to center field to end the threat.

Austin Tinsley fanned the first two in the seventh but a hit batsman followed by a double from Jake Kolasinski put the Rangers up 4-3 in the final inning.

Chris Iliopoulos put the tying run on board with a single to left and was lifted for pinch runner Adam Stolley. Agliolo sacrificed Stolly into scoring position and after a walk to Lyons, Abegg lined out to second for out number two.

King came up delivered the clutch single to center to tie things back up.

In the extra inning, Max Widmar greeted Peter Young with a triple to the right field corner to lead things off. Agliolo made a leaping grab to snare a liner from Bryan Wade for the first out. Young flirted with outside pitches to Trent Muscat before one tipped off the glove of Lyons far enough to allow Widmar to scoot in for the go ahead run.

Kreh hit a one-out double to deep center field and Jason Priest followed with a double to right center to score pinch runner Evan Kayser to tie things up. Stolley drew a walk to put runners at first and second. Agliolo hit a ball to short and the only play was at first to move the runners up to second and third. Lyons was hit by a pitch to load the bases to bring up Abegg.

Pitcher Joseph Plaud fell behind in the count 3-1 but threw a strike to make it full. On the money pitch, Plaud left it up and Abegg drew the bases on balls forcing in Priest for the winner.

Rian Markes pitched 5.2 innings in his home debut and struck out three before leaving in the sixth. Keaton Kastberg took the loss for UWP after going 1.2 innings and allowing three runs on four hits.

Priest was 3-for-5 and Iliopoulos and Trimble were each 2-for-4 at the plate.
