KIRKSVILLE, Mo. - The Truman State University men's and women's tennis teams were home for their first Great Lakes Valley Conference matches of the season on a beautiful Friday afternoon at the Truman Tennis Courts. The men fell to William Jewell by a score of 5-4 while the women rolled to an 8-1 victory over the Cardinals, their first in league play.

The men now sit at 2-11 overall and 0-3 in the GLVC while the women improved to 3-10 on the season including a mark of 1-3 in conference action. Both teams are home again on Saturday and will be hosting Rockhurst with the action set to begin at 11 a.m.

Friday, the men got singles wins from both Gavin Hatter in the No. 2 spot and Nick Thiele in the No. 6 slot. When it switched over to doubles, the teams of Gavin Hatter/Paul Province and Griffin Turnage/Nick Thiele came through with victories for the Bulldogs.

The women had a big day on the court as they snapped a four-match losing streak, three of which were against GLVC foes. Friday, the Purple and White put on a clinic against the Cardinals. In Truman's two wins prior to Friday, it hadn't scored more than seven decisions, but the win over William Jewell was a commanding one.
