KIRKSVILLE, Mo. - This past week and for the first time all season, the Truman State University volleyball team suffered a loss inside Pershing Arena. The Bulldogs went 0-2 at home, but have no time to mourn those losses. The Purple and White must now turn their attention to three matches in five days, two of which will come against ranked opponents. Truman has slipped to seventh in the GLVC standings with five league matches left to play.
Last Time Out - Rockhurst
Then Ranked No. 11 in the country, Rockhurst swept Truman back on Oct. 5 in Kansas City. That loss snapped the Bulldogs' season best eight-match winning streak.
Ellie Kaat made her return from an injury she sustained a week prior against Missouri-St. Louis and led the team in kills with 11.
Holly Hildebrand and
Jocelynn Livingston, each with eight kills, both hit the ball well with hitting percentages of .583 and .353, respectively.
Savvy Hughes notched 36 assists,
Elle Renault had the team's lone service ace, Livingston was on top of blocks with three, and Hughes also paced the squad in digs with 15. Hughes was the first person not named
Lauren Wacker (14 times) or
Sam Yancy (four times) to lead the team in digs.
Scouting Missouri S&T
Since a 6-2 start to the season (two three-match winning streaks), the Miners' 17 matches since have turned out like this: W, L, W, L, W, L, W, L, L, L, W, W, L, W, L, W, L. To say the least, it has been quite an up-and-down season for Missouri S&T and first-year head coach, Andy Halaz. The Miners have suffered the fewest losses at home (4-2), but also haven't played there since Oct. 6, before the Midwest Region Crossover. Truman has dominated the all-time series between the two teams to the tune of 9-1 including wins in three-straight meetings.
Scouting Drury
The Drury volleyball program hasn't seen 21 wins in a season in three years and was ranked No. 8 in last week's American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) poll, the highest ranking in school history. The Panthers, who will host Truman on Saturday afternoon, have been at their best inside the O'Reilly Family Event Center. There, Drury is 8-0. The Panthers boast arguably the best defense in the league as opponents are hitting just .140 against them, the lowest mark in the conference. Drury also excels above the net as it is second in the league in blocks per set with 2.32.
Up Next
Next up, Truman will play its final non-conference match of the regular season, a 6 p.m. first serve at Lindenwood on Tuesday, followed by home dates with Indianapolis on Friday and Lewis (7 p.m.) for Senior Night that Saturday (4 p.m.).
