KIRKSVILLE, Mo. - The regular season has ended and the postseason is here for the Truman State University volleyball team. The eighth-seeded Bulldogs will face top-seeded and 23rd-ranked Lewis for the third time this season in the GLVC Tournament quarterfinals on Thursday night at 8:30 p.m.
Third Time's The Charm
As mentioned above, this will be the third meeting of the season between Truman and Lewis after their home-and-home series during the regular season. The Flyers swept both of those matches and lead the all-time series 7-4, which includes wins in the previous three meetings.
Big Stage Life
Of Truman's four wins over Lewis, two of them have come in the GLVC Tournament including a 3-2 victory in the 2013 semifinals and a massive 3-2 upset over the then-No. 15 Flyers in the 2016 semifinals. That 2016 win vaulted the Bulldogs to their second league title in three seasons after winning the tournament in 2014.
Familiar Territory
Truman's sweep over Lindenwood on Tuesday represented a landmark win for multiple reasons. Not only did that victory put the Bulldogs back in the win column, it gave them the 30th 20-win season in program history (first since 2014), the seventh 20-win campaign in 10 seasons under Briney and an 11-2 record against non-conference foes in 2018.
Up Next
If Truman wins, it will play the winner of fourth-seeded and 25th-ranked Rockhurst (27-6, 14-4 GLVC) and fifth-seeded Indianapolis (19-11, 12-6 GLVC) on Friday at 5:30 p.m.
