RECAP: Kayser's Inside The Park HR Lifts Bulldogs To Season Opening Win

TOPEKA, Kan. – Evan Kayser hit an inside the park home run that scored three runs and lifted the Truman Baseball team to a 6-4 win in the season opener against Washburn on Friday afternoon.
 
The Bulldogs were trailing 4-2 with two outs in the seventh when Josh Abegg reached on a throwing error to bring Kayser to the plate. With a 2-2 count Kayser cleared the bases and scored himself for his third collegiate home run and first of the season giving the 'Dogs a 5-4 lead.
 
Truman's bullpen went to work with Matt Tometz pitching a scoreless seventh and Matthew Wade a 1-2-3 eighth.
 
Charlie Kreh added some insurance with a solo shot to right center in the ninth.
 
Peter Young struck out three and walked one for his first save of 2018.
 
Kent Frantz pitched sixth innings to earn the win. Frantz allowed four runs, three earned and struck out a pair of Ichabods.
 
Truman led 2-1 after one and Washburn tied it 2-2 after two. The Ichabods got a two-out RBI in the fifth to take the lead and a solo home run by Jake Bublitz to go up 4-2.
 
The Bulldogs outhit Washburn 11-5 with Trimble, Abegg, Kayser and Ethan Kleinheider each collecting a pair of hits. Truman also swiped four bases on the day.
 
The teams return to action on Saturday with two, seven-inning games starting at 1 p.m.
