Women Travel To St. Louis; Host Maryville This Weekend

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – The next two weekends, the Truman women's soccer team will alternate road and home games on their schedule. This week the Bulldogs play at Missouri-St. Louis on Friday before returning home to face Maryville University on Sunday.

The Bulldogs and Indianapolis have the most overall wins in the GLVC with six but Truman sits at 2-2 in the league standings after having two overtime results this past week. They won in overtime at Rockhurst 3-2 but lost in the extra time on a penalty kick goal at Quincy 1-0.

The Quincy loss was the first shutout against the Bulldogs this season. Truman is still second among GLVC schools with 16 goals scored and has goals from 10 different players on the roster. Faith Branson picked up the OT winner at Rockhurst and leads the team with three goals, she is tied with Hanna Burke for the most points on the squad as Burke has four assists for eight points.

Truman has outscored opponents 16-6 this season and allowed just over 4.5 shots on goal per game. Beth Hopwood is tied atop the league shutout list with four and is third in goals-against average with a 0.73. Hopwood has been in goal for all eight games this season.

The Bulldogs moved up to sixth in the United Soccer Coaches Association Midwest regional rankings. They were seventh last week and are the top ranked GLVC team in the rankings. Grand Valley State, Ferris, Ashland and Saginaw, all of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Conference are ahead of Truman and Findlay out of the Great Midwest Conference is fifth.

Missouri-St. Louis is 2-5 but one of their wins came against Ferris back in the opening weekend of the season 2-1 in overtime. The Tritons have dropped five of their last six matches but it has been a loaded schedule. In addition to Ferris State, UMSL has played Grand Valley St, Saginaw Valley, Indianapolis and Rockhurst. UINDY and Rockhurst, along with Quincy sit atop the GLVC standings with three wins each.

The Tritons have four goals this year from four different players and have been outscored 14-4 thus far. Amber Hayes has been in goal for all seven matches and has a 1.95 goals-against average.

The Bulldogs and Tritons have played 220 minutes of scoreless soccer over the past two years. Truman had won five straight since the two scoreless draws and own an 11-8-4 all-time lead in the series between the two schools.
Maryville ended Truman's season last year in the quarterfinal round of the GLVC Tournament. The Saints scored a 1-0 win on a PK goal in the first half and won the regular season matchup by the same 1-0 score as Caite Huesgen scored in the 75th minute in the match played in Kirksville.

Kaley Ruff and Stacie Muehling have five of the team's 11 goals this year and keeper Elyse Waterhouse has had the bulk of minutes in goal and has a 0.90 goals-against average.

Next week Truman will split their week with a trip to Drury on Friday and a home match with Missouri S&T on Sunday.
