INDIANAPOLIS - Wednesday afternoon, the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) announced its 2019 preseason poll as voted on by the league's coaches, and the Truman State University softball team was picked to finish sixth with 111 points. The Bulldogs will open their season on Feb. 15-17 in Hendersonville, Tenn. at Trevecca Nazarene's Music City Invitational with five games in three days.
Defending National Champion, Southern Indiana (41-23, 15-13 GLVC in 2018), took the top spot with 166 points and 11 of the 14 first-place votes. Following the Screaming Eagles and rounding out the top three were Illinois Springfield (40-19, 22-6 GLVC) with 149 points/one first-place vote and McKendree (38-18, 20-8 GLVC) with 140 points/one first-place vote.
As for the rest of the top five, Indianapolis (39-20, 18-10 GLVC) checked in at No. 4 with 138 points while Missouri-St. Louis (35-24, 17-11 GLVC) was slotted in fifth with 126 points and the final nod of the 14 first-place votes. Truman (26-20, 15-13 GLVC) was placed sixth, one spot below where it finished the 2018 regular season. Since the league eliminated divisions in 2015, the Bulldogs had never been picked below fourth in the preseason.
