DUBUQUE, Iowa – The Truman Wrestling team competed in the Loras College Open on Saturday.
Zach Williard went 2-2 on the day. He won his first match 10-4 over Eric Santana (Central-Iowa) but was sent into the consolation side of the bracket by Jack Wagner (Northern Iowa) 18-10. He rebounded with a fall win at the 2:52 mark over Matthew Masatani (Central-Iowa) but lost 13-2 to Mason McMillen (Loras).
Caleb Osborn won his first match in the 141-pound bracket over Luke Pradel (Wisconsin-Platteville) 9-5 but lost his next two by major decisions. He lost 15-5 to Aaron Mayer (Iowa) and 11-2 to Frankie Indeli (Loras).
At 149, Nathan Wutherlich lost both of his matches by fall. He lost in 2:34 to Adam Valdez (Loras) and in 1:26 to Tate Murty (Upper Iowa).
Zach Taylor dropped both of his matches in the 157-pound bracket. Taylor lost by tech fall to Dalton Jensen (Grandview) and by pin at 4:29 to Brandon Lucht (Wisconsin-Platteville).
Vin Kriegshauser lost to DeMichael Franklin (Iowa State) by tech fall and had to bow out of his match to Kolton Bartow (Loras) by forfeit.
Sam Reeves and
Shane Gallagher were entered into the 197-pound weight class. Gallagher went 0-2 with tech fall losses to Andrew Salemme (Wisconsin) 17-2 and Devin Roettger (Cornell-Iowa) 18-1.
Reeves lost to Iowa State's Hunter DeLong by fall at 1:46 but advanced via forfeit by Costas Hatzipavlides. He lost to Cody Meyer (Unattached) 4-3.
The Bulldogs will compete in the Great Lakes Valley Conference championship duals next weekend in Indianapolis. The team will wrestle in six duals over two days for the league championship.
