KIRKSVILLE, Mo.—The Truman men's swimming team competed against McKendree Saturday in the first conference action of the season. Ultimately, McKendree came out on top 178-80.
The team of Jack McKenzie, Grant Lair, Jack McCormick and Lliot Gieseke finished first in the 200 yard freestyle relay, earning the Bulldogs 11 points. Their final time was 1:27.00. In the 200 yard breaststoke John Breen and Austin Bell finished second and third with times of 2:13.01 and 2:17.11, respectively.
After the action, coach Jerod Simek said, "the men's team swam very well against a very tough opponent. The McKendree men's team is one of the best in the country and our guys fought ever race really strong today. They are pretty broken down from lifting and training but were able to attack their swims with smart race strategies and execution. These guys have been getting stronger each performance from the Show Me Showdown a few weeks ago, to Colorado College and School of Mines last week to this meet here. We are looking forward to hosting William Jewell next week and testing ourselves again!"
