KIRKSVILLE, Mo.—As the season winds down, the Truman Volleyball team sits on the outside looking in as they attempt to get into the GLVC tournament. This week they take on Quincy in a non-conference clash on Tuesday at Quincy before going on the road over the weekend for conference matches at Lindenwood Friday and #23 Missouri-St. Louis Saturday.
Right now, TSU sits at 4-7 in conference and two games behind the eight seed: Illinois Springfield. The four remaining conference matches include this weekend's opponents before closing the season at home against McKendree and Southern Indiana—two teams also on the outside fighting to get into the tournament.
Lauren Wacker continues to lead the GLVC in digs per set by a wide margin, now at 5.83. Her total of 513 digs on the season is also first in the conference.
Ellie Kaat is eighth in the conference in kills per set (in conference play) with 3.38, spurred on by double digit kills in four of the last six matches—including her career high 26 in the win over William Jewell.
The Hawks took the conference matchup in Kirksville on October 8 3-1, and it was the first time Truman fell to Quincy in over twenty years. That night
Jocelynn Livingston led the team with 13 kills and
Ainsley Heise hit a season high .471 with nine kills and five block assists. The third set of the match was one of the best individual sets of the season for the Bulldogs as they hit .256 with 14 kills while limiting Quincy to a .094 attacking percentage as they won the set 25-15.
This will be only the fifth meeting all-time between Truman and Lindenwood, and so far the Bulldogs have won all four meetings. The two teams met once in 2011, twice in 2012 and then last season. The first two matches were 3-2 wins for TSU while the last two have been sweeps. Mackenzi Sifuentes leads them with 193 kills and is fifth in the conference with a .329 hitting percentage.
Missouri-St. Louis currently sits at 23-3, and has won nine of their last ten. Their potent attack is led by Charlotte Richards and Selena Nolte, who are fifth and sixth in the GLVC in kills per set. Richards is also third in the conference in points per set with 4.28. Kaileen Herman leads the conference in assists per set at 11.22—with 1043 total this season. Megan Woll is second behind Wacker in digs with 477 and 5.13 per set.
After this week's slate, the team will be back at Pershing Arena for their final two matches on the 15
th and 16
th against McKendree and Southern Indiana on Senior Day.
