NOTES: Bulldog Baseball Hopes To Get Games In This Weekend

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – The Bulldog Baseball team will look to restart the 2019 season but mother nature will play havoc with the schedule as the team heads to Evansville, Indiana for the Southern Indiana Dunn Hospitality Classic.

Heavy rains throughout the week and a challenging forecast this weekend has thrown the schedule into disarray.  The Bulldogs were scheduled to play Grand Valley State on Friday at 11 a.m., Ohio Dominican on Saturday at 10 a.m. and host Southern Indiana on Sunday at 2:30 p.m.

Plans are still being worked out by coaches and administrators over weekend logistics and fans are encouraged to follow @TrumanAthletics and @TrumanBaseball on social media for the latest updates. The current "official" schedule has Truman playing Ohio Dominican at 3:30 p.m. on Friday and then playing two on Sunday, first against Grand Valley State at 2:30 and finally against Southern Indiana at 5 p.m.

Truman hopes to return to the field after having last weekend's series with Newman (Kan.) University washed/snowed out. The four-game series will not be made up. As a result of the cancellation, the Bulldogs have made their Tuesday, March 12thdate with Missouri Western a doubleheader instead of a planned single-game.

The Bulldogs started the campaign back of February 8-9 and lost all four games to Harding University in Searcy, Arkansas. Jack Goodwin and Steven Bradbury accounted for seven of the 15 hits during the series with each recording a double. However the offense struggled with a .152 batting average over the four-games and the Bulldogs struck out 33 times.

Rian Markes was the game one starter against the Bison and fanned five over five innings of work but took the loss in the 8-2 opener.

About the Opponents:
Ohio Dominican has played twice thus far and came away with wins over Urbana (Ohio). They won 9-0 and 13-2. The Panthers were 25-24 last season and 16-16 in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference. ODU is the coaches choice to win the GMAC regular season title this year.

Grand Valley State will be making their 2019 debut this weekend. The Lakers had games against Urbana and Ohio Dominican cancelled last weekend. GVSU are a perennial powerhouse and were 28-23 last season and 15-13 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletics Conference. They were picked to finish fourth in the GLIAC in 2019.

Southern Indiana was also picked to finish fourth in a congested top half of the GLVC. The Screaming Eagles are the defending NCAA Midwest regional champions and garnered four, first-place votes in the conference coaches' poll. They took two of three from the University of North Georgia in their season opener last weekend and were 35-23 last year en route to the Division II World Series appearance.

On the Horizon:
The Bulldogs have a Tuesday game scheduled at the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg. The single-game is slated for a 2 p.m.  Following that, the Bulldogs are hoping to play at home next weekend with Lewis University and Upper Iowa visiting Kirksville. Truman would play Lewis in a doubleheader on Friday and Upper Iowa on Sunday with those two teams playing a twinbill on Saturday.
