Bulldog Baseball Heads South For Season Opener

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – The 2019 Truman Baseball season is scheduled to start this weekend when the Bulldogs head to Harding University and a four-game series with the Bison.
 
Projected weather in Searcy, Arkansas has changed the originally scheduled series. The first pitch of 2019 will now be moved up to 1 p.m. on Friday and the teams will play a doubleheader. On Saturday, a second doubleheader will start at 1 p.m.
 
Truman was 12-36 last season and Harding was 29-21. The Bison began their spring campaign last weekend with a three-game series at home against Mississippi College. They dropped all three games by scores of 12-6, 3-2 and 4-2.
 
Mason King and Tanner Forck are the two seniors on this year's squad. King enters the 2019 season with a career .251 batting average and 56 runs batted in. He has 84 career walks which is only six shy of breaking the school record in walks by a player set by Zak Larkin from 2012-2015. King is also just outside the Truman career top 10 in stolen bases with 32.
 
Sophomore Matt Wade will lead a young pitching staff this season. Wade started five games out of 17 appearances as a freshman and was 1-4 with a 5.59 earned run average. Junior Rian Markes returns the most starting experience with 23 starts and a 5-9 career record and has a 5.27 ERA. 
 
Head Coach Dan Davis enters his 12thseason at the helm of the Bulldogs, second most by any Truman Baseball coach. Davis is four wins shy of 200 in his coaching career. 
 
Truman will play their first 13 games on the road with a stop next weekend in Wichita, Kansas and Newman University for a four-game set. The home opener is slated for March 1stagainst Lewis University.
