RECAP: Truman All Smiles After Sweep of Lincoln

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. - Eight runs on 10 hits in game one followed by 14 runs on 19 hits in the nightcap to go with effective pitching. Sounds like a pretty good recipe for success, right? Indeed. The Truman State University softball team took a break from GLVC play on Tuesday afternoon and made quick work of former MIAA foe, Lincoln, with scores of 8-0 (six innings) and 14-1 (five innings).

With the sweep, Truman (21-10) earned head coach, Erin Brown, her 10th straight 20-win season and 11th in 13 seasons at the helm. The Bulldogs also improved to 14-1 in non-conference games, 9-3 at home and ran their winning streak to five games.

Tuesday, six Truman hitters registered at least three hits on the day including Kayla Quanstrum (4-for-5), Christa Reisinger (pictured, 5-for-7), Emma Walbert (5-for-7), Brooke VunCannon (3-for-5), Alyssa Rivera (3-for-6), and Lauren Bowman (3-for-7). As a team, the Bulldogs hit an even .500 with 29 hits in their 58 at-bats and their four pitchers gave up just one earned run in 11 innings pitched.

In game one, Alyssa Hajduk (10-3) picked up her fourth-straight victory after four innings of work before giving way to Rachael Kernich for the two-inning save, the first of her career. In the nightcap, Truman used every arm except for Hajduk including Lauren Dale (10-6) for three innings, Kernich for a frame and Maria McGonegle for the final inning in her first ever home appearance.

Next up, Truman will host Illinois Springfield on Saturday for Breast Cancer Awareness Day at the park with game one's first pitch set for 12 p.m. The Prairie Stars are having another good season in 2019 as they'll enter the weekend at 20-16 overall and 9-5 in league action.
