EAST PEORIA, Ill. - Looking to win three games in one day and advance to the finals of the GLVC Tournament just like 2017, the Truman State University softball team was tasked with No. 12 Indianapolis for the second time in as many days. Lauren Honkomp (21-4) and the Greyhounds put a halt to the Bulldogs' magical run en route to a 3-0 decision.
Truman (31-17) sent
Rachael Kernich (1-2) to the circle for her first career postseason start and the freshman turned in a quality appearance. Kernich gave up just three earned runs on seven hits with no walks and four strikeouts while surrendering just one extra-base hit. The rookie's effort also marked the first time she threw more than five innings in a single game.
Two of the Bulldogs' three hits came from
Christa Reisinger who hit just .286 (4-for-14) in five games and Saturday's performance represented her only multi-hit game of the tournament. Truman's third and final hit belonged to
Adrienne Compton and the junior hit .294 (5-for-17) in her five games. Offensively, the story was and continues to be about
Lauren Bowman. For the week, the freshman catcher hit .429 with six hits in her 14 at-bats to raise her season average to just below the .300 mark.
The NCAA Selection Show will be on Monday and Truman will find out if it has qualified for the Division II Midwest Regional.
