PREVIEW: Women's Soccer Welcomes Quincy For GLVC Opener

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – The Truman Women's Soccer team will begin conference season with a bang when they host Quincy University on Sunday at the Truman Soccer Park.

Truman enters the match 0-1-1 after tying #12 Ferris State 0-0 last Friday and falling to Davenport (Mich.) 1-0 in overtime on Sunday.

Beth Hopwood stopped all 14 shots on goal and helped the Bulldogs preserve a shutout over Ferris last Friday. Ferris outshot Truman 22-9 for the game and had all eight of the corner kicks but Hopwood would endure and post her 10thcareer shutout moving her into a tie with Leah Hollcroft in 10thplace on the Truman charts.

Quincy was on the same swing as the Bulldogs and posted a 1-1 record. The Hawks defeated Davenport 1-0 on Friday but lost 1-0 to Ferris State on Sunday.

This will be just the fifth visit since 2000 for Quincy to Kirksville with the last coming in 2015. The Hawks have won the last two matchups 2-0 in 2017 and 1-0 in 2018.

The overall series is 13-11-4 in favor of Quincy and since joining together in the GLVC, the series is 3-2-2 also in favor of the Hawks.

Quincy finished 10-6-2 last season and 8-3-2 in the GLVC. The Hawks handed the Bulldogs one of their defeats last season by scoring an early goal in overtime to win 1-0. Cassidy Foley scored on a penalty just 34 seconds into the extra time to beat the Bulldogs. Quincy had a decisive advantage in shots 16-5 but shots on goal were closer at 5-3.

The Bulldogs will return to their regular Friday/Sunday weekly match schedule starting next week with a trip to the Kansas City metro area. Truman will face Rockhurst at 5 p.m. on Friday and William Jewel at noon on Sunday.
