PREVIEW: Bellarmine Tournament

KIRKSVILLE, Mo.—The Truman State volleyball team will take the court for their third tournament of the season this weekend in Louisville, Ky. at the Bellarmine Tournament. They picked up their third win of the season against previously unbeaten Missouri Western at the Drury Tournament and are looking to expand on that this weekend.

Their Friday opponents are Georgia College and Cedarville University. On Saturday they will take on Charleston University and Trevecca Nazarene University. All four of their opponents are going to be first time opponents for Truman.

This season the Bulldogs are 4th in the GLVC with 17.45 digs per set and Lauren Wacker leads the GLVC with 5.77 digs per set. The defense has limited opponents to a .195 hitting percentage this season.

On the offensive side, Morgan Smith is second in the conference with 4.19 kills per set, and is fourth in the conference with 4.42 points per set. Elise Hardesty is eighth in the conference in assists per set with 9.68.

Georgia College comes in with a record of 4-2, on a three match winning streak. They took all three matches they played at the Jaguar Rumble on the campus of Augusta University. They are led by junior outside hitter Libby Bochniak and sophomore setter Lauren Talele. Bochniak has 96 kills to lead the squad and Talele leads with 202 assists. Bochniak also leads the team in digs with 111 and in points with 99.

Cedarville competed at the Lindenwood Invitational last weekend, defeating William Jewell before falling to the hosts and Montevallo. They bring a 2-4 mark into the weekend. Liene Miller and Lauren Willow lead the team with 81.5 and 81 points, respectively. Sierra Schuitema leads the team with 208 assists and Emily Ward leads with 68 digs.

Charleston comes in on a three match losing streak and 2-6 overall. They dropped their first three matches at the Capital Classic before winning two in a row and dropped their final three at the MEC/PSAC Crossover Tournament. Janeese VerVelde leads the team with 52 kills and 60.5 points. Erin Thomas comes in with 185 assists and is second with 47 digs.

Trevecca comes in with a record of 7-3. They went 2-2 at the Alabama-Huntsville Invitational to open the season but have won five of their six. Their attack is led by Ellie Buffler with 114 kills and Madison Martin with 96. Each of them has eclipsed 100 points on the season. Chloee McDaniel has 289 assists and Claire Hindman leads the way with 127 digs, with Martin second on the team with 91.

Following the tournament Truman will begin their conference slate at Lewis is Romeoville, Ill. on the 27th.
