NOTES: Greyhounds & Knights On Tap For Truman Women's Soccer

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – The conference season chugs along for the Truman Women's Soccer team with a split travel weekend ahead. The Bulldogs will travel to the University of Indianapolis for a Friday evening match before returning home and facing Bellarmine on Sunday afternoon.

Truman is 2-2-1 overall and 2-1 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference after splitting their two road matches last weekend. The Bulldogs dropped a 2-1 decision to Rockhurst last Friday night then got a late goal in the 90thminute to escape William Jewell with a 3-2 win.

Anna Meyer had two of Truman's four goals over the weekend including the winner against the Cardinals. They were the first two goals of her Bulldog career.  Hanna Burke and Isabel Kurzban each got into the scoring column for the first time this season with tallies against William Jewell.

Keeper Beth Hopwood has the top save percentage among GLVC keepers at 90.6%. She has made the most saves (48) than any other goalkeeper in the league. She is averaging 9.6 saves per game and has two shutouts.

UINDY is 3-1-1 and 1-1-1 in the GLVC. The Greyhounds are coming off a 1-0 loss to Southern Indiana last Friday and a 1-1 tie at McKendree on Sunday. Amanda Meyer has a team-high three goals for UINDY while Sophia Saucerman has started all five in net and has an 82.6% save percentage with four goals allowed.

Truman is 7-3-0 all-time against UINDY and has won the last seven matches by a combine score of 13-0. The Greyhounds won the first three games of the series back in 1997, 98 and 99. The last three matches have been played in Kirksville including the 2018 match in which Truman won 2-0. Maggie Beem and Hanna Hickey scored first half goals for the Bulldogs and Beth Hopwood stopped the three UINDY shots on goal for the shutout.

Bellarmine will most likely be making their final trip to Kirksville barring any postseason action this fall. The Knights will be transitioning to Division I following the season. Bellarmine is 4-2 overall and 1-2 in conference play. They lost at home to McKendree 1-0 last Friday before knocking off Southern Indiana 1-0 on Sunday. Annabel Moore has two of the team's five goals this year and Elyssa Francis has allowed just three opponent goals in six games.

The Knights have had Truman's number since the Bulldogs joined the GLVC in 2013. BU has won six of the eight meetings with Truman's only win coming in 2016 in overtime. The Bulldogs have not scored against the Knights since the OT winner having lost the last three including both meetings last season.

Bellarmine and Truman played to a scoreless tie in the regular season match in Kirksville but the two squared off in the GLVC semifinals with the Knights' winning 3-0. Truman does hold the all-time series edge against Bellarmine at 7-6-1.

Truman will conclude a stretch of seven of their first nine matches on the road next weekend with trips to Lewis University and Illinois Springfield. Following next weekend, the Bulldogs will be in Kirksville for six of their last eight matches.
