PREVIEW: Lewis and Illinois-Springfield

KIRKSVILLE, Mo.—The Truman volleyball team opens their GLVC play this weekend as they take on #6 ranked Lewis University Friday at 6 p.m. and Illinois-Springfield Saturday at 2 p.m. The Bulldogs are looking to snap a four match losing streak to Lewis, who won all three matches played last season and the lone meeting in 2017. Truman's last win came on 11/19/2016, a 3-2 win in the GLVC tournament. Truman has played Illinois Springfield regularly since they have been GLVC opponents. Since 2013 Truman is 5-2 against UIS, however the Bulldogs are on a two match losing streak in the series.

Truman comes into the match at 6-6 after 12 matches in three tournaments. Libero Lauren Wacker is leading the GLVC with 5.71 digs per set and outside hitter Morgan Smith is third in kills per set with 4.02 and fifth in points per set with 4.26. The past two matches were two of the three best matches for Truman in hitting percentage this season, hitting .305 against Charleston and .216 against Trevecca Nazarene.

The sixth ranked Flyers are in the top 20 in three different categories nationally, including tenth nationally in assists with 13.15, 15th in kills per set with 14.05 and 16th in hitting percentage against with .119. They are led by Alexandra Preuss who is averaging 3.08 kills per set and Ava Venema who is averaging 2.95 and is tenth nationally in blocks with 50.

Illinois-Springfield is 8-4 on the season and riding a three match winning streak, including a 3-1 victory over #14 Hillsdale last weekend. They are led by Hannah Nicolaisen who is averaging 2.95 kills per set, Becca Blakeley with 10.22 assists a set (fifth in the GLVC) and Jailyn Borum with 4.59 digs per set (fifth in the GLVC).  

After these two matches, the Bulldogs will come home for their first home match on October 4 against Indianapolis at John J Pershing Arena at 7 p.m.
