PREVIEW: Baseball Takes on Rogers State in Weekend Series

KIRKSVILLE, Mo.—The Truman Baseball team returns to Oklahoma for its second three game set of the season as they take on Rogers State in Claremore. The Bulldogs won two of their first three games of the year as they downed Northwest Oklahoma State and Rockhurst in Alva over the weekend.

Leadoff hitter Brenden Kelly had a fantastic opening weekend, getting six hits over the three games and scoring six runs. The junior from O'Fallon, Mo. He had three hits against Washburn and hit in two RBIs, bringing his season total to three and doubling his career RBI total. His ten total bases are first on the team and is the only Bulldog with multiple steals so far in this young season.
Reid Wilson delivered five hits in 14 at bats in the opening weekend, and he led the team in RBIs with four. The junior from Columbia, Mo. had two RBIs in each of the two Bulldog wins, one on a sac fly and one on a single against NWOSU, his two against Rockhurst coming on a double and a single to right.

Holden Missey hit the lone homerun last weekend in the win over Northwestern Oklahoma State, collecting three hits in ten at bats and scoring four runs with two RBIs. His seven total bases are second on the team, and he drew three walks. He started the game against Rockhurst and picked up the win, throwing five innings and allowing four hits and two runs with four strikeouts. He and Connor McKenna were the winning Bulldog pitchers opening weekend. McKenna picked up the win in the opener as he went five innings, allowing two runs on seven hits with strikeouts. It was the first career win for the sophomore from Helias Catholic High School in Jefferson City.

Nick Draheim made his Truman debut over the weekend, going one inning against Northwestern Oklahoma State; where he picked up his first career strikeout. He made his second appearance against Rockhurst, picking up the save. He collected the final two outs against the Hawks to preserve the win.

As a team, Truman totaled 47 bases and stole five during the opening weekend while the pitchers racked up 18 strikeouts in 25 innings.

The opponent:
Rogers State comes into the series at 2-2. They won their first two games: a 5-0 win over Mary University and a 14-3 win over Southern Nazarene before falling to Colorado Christian 7-3 and Newman 12-3. The Hillcats are coming off a 36-18 season in which they won the Heartland Conference tournament championship and set a program record for wins. They advanced to the NCAA South Central Regional where they defeated Lubbock Christian before being eliminated by Angelo State. Coming into this season they were picked sixth out of 12 teams in the preseason MIAA poll, they left the Heartland Conference after the 2019 season.

Nick Follett racked up nine RBIs in the four games for the Hillcats and has ten hits in his first 16 at bats of the season. He also hit the first homerun of the season for RSU against Colorado Christian. Jonathan Soto and Mason Harvey each collected five hits during their opening games, with each picking up an RBI.

After the set with Rogers State the Bulldogs will head to Pittsburg, Kan. for four games: opening with Upper Iowa on Friday at noon, followed by two games Saturday: Upper Iowa at noon and then Pittsburg State at 3:00, then concluding with Pittsburg State at 3:00 on Sunday.
