INDIANAPOLIS - The Truman Softball team split games in day two of the Midwest Region Crossover bringing their record to 1-3 this season. The Bulldogs fell to Ohio Dominican 8-0 in their first game Sunday morning but came out victorious in their second game defeating Northwood 4-1.

Emma Walbert started the Bulldogs off with a one-out single in the top of the first. The Bulldogs were not able to capitalize on the early hit and entered the bottom half of the inning scoreless. Rachael Kernich got the start for the Bulldogs and had an efficient first inning only allowing one hit. The Ohio Dominican bats came alive in the second as they scored three times in the bottom of the second inning on four hits and an error.

ODU would add five more runs in the bottom of the fifth after juicing the bases with one hit and four walks. The Bulldog bats went cold as they only had two hits in the game as they fell 8-0. Walbert and Lauren Bowman both went 1-for-2 at the plate.Â

Northwood would get on the scoreboard after a leadoff single and a one-out single to center to score the runner from second.Â

Truman would immediately answer in the bottom of the first inning. Alyssa Rivera got the bats going with a two-out single. Bowman hit one right back to the pitcher but would reach first base on a throwing error scoring Rivera to tie the game at one. McKenzie West would follow up with an RBI single of her own giving the Bulldogs the 2-1 first-inning lead. Â

After the first inning Northwood run, Breianna Klein would shut the Timberwolves down at the plate.Â

The Bulldog bats looked to be cooling off until Klein would do her part at the plate with a one-out single in the bottom of the fourth. Klein would advance to second after a passed ball which set up a Shelby Webster RBI double to extend the lead to 3-1. Alyssa Hajduk came in as relief in the sixth inning to seal the deal.

Klein pitched five innings allowing five hits and only one run. Hajduk came in for two innings on the mound and allowed one hit, no runs, and three strikeouts. At the plate for the Bulldogs, Rivera was 1-for-3 with a run scored, West went 1-for-3 with an RBI, and Klein went 1-for-2 with an RBI.Â

The Bulldogs will be back in action March 6-March 10 in sunny Polk County Florida. Friday games will begin at 9 a.m. central time.
