All-Conference Honors For Six Truman Women's Soccer Players

INDIANAPOLIS – Six Truman Women's Soccer players were chosen by league coaches to the All-Great Lakes Valle Conference team on Friday. Senior Hanna Hickey was the Bulldogs first-team selection and the Truman squad earned the James R. Spalding Team Sportsmanship Award.

Hickey has played all available minutes this season on the field and has four goals and four assists from her midfield position. Three of her four goals have been game winners. This was her first all-conference recognition in her fifth season as a Bulldog.

Camryn Sprague was one of two defensive players for Truman to earn all-league accolades. Sprague was a second-team choice and also a stalwart on the field with over 1500 minutes played while starting all 16 games. She had 13 shots with five on net but was a huge presence for the Truman defense that allowed the second fewest goals (9) in the GLVC this season. This was Sprague's first all-GLVC accolades in four seasons played.

Four Truman players were placed on the third team, forwards Faith Branson and Chance Douglass, defender Kate Peterson and goalkeeper Beth Hopwood. Branson was the team leader in points and goals with six this season. Following a first-team selection in the spring, Branson led Truman in scoring this fall with six goals and two assists.

Douglass was the team's assist leader with five helpers in 16 games played. She scored three goals, two of which were game winning tallies. She has seven points in Truman's last six games behind two goals and three assists. She was a second team selection following the 2019 season.

Peterson was another staple of the Truman defense after logging nearly 1500 minutes played in 16 matches. She played the full time in her last 10 games and 14 of 16 this season. This was her first all-conference mention in her third season of action.

Hopwood was third in league rankings in goals-against average with six in 13 matches played (0.44) and was second in save percentage at 89.3%. She was 9-3-2 with seven clean sheets on the season. In four seasons at Truman, Hopwood is 40-21-3 with 26 shutouts and a 0.77 goals against average. This was her first all-conference team selection.

Sydni Beeley was nominated by the team for the James R. Spalding Sportsmanship Award. Each team selects one player from their squad for the nomination. Schools will select one male and one female from those nominated to represent the school on the sportsmanship list following the academic year.

Truman was voted the team award winner for the Spaulding Sportsmanship Award. Each school ranks their top choices of teams that displayed the best sportsmanship throughout the year.  This is the second time Truman has earned the award, the last coming following the 2016-17 season.

The Bulldogs will play in a quarterfinal match at home on Sunday against the Missouri S&T Lady Miners. Truman is the number three seed and will host the six seed Lady Miners at 1 p.m. from the Truman Soccer Park. The two teams played to a 0-0 draw in Rolla back in September. The winner will advance to the GLVC Final Four, which will be played at the campus site of the highest remaining seed after Sunday's matches.
